Sun Fun Festival 2016
This year’s Sun Fun Festival is taking place from Friday, June 3 through Sunday, June 5, and kicks off Hot Summer Nights on the Grand Strand. The family-friendly festival provides live beach music, shag lessons and a shag contest, kids games, a parade and plenty more. The event is being held in Downtown Myrtle Beach at Plyler Park, the beach in front of Plyler Park, Ocean Boulevard and the Boardwalk. The festival is sponsored by The Gay Dolphin Gift Cove.

 

Friday, June 3
6:45 p.m. Sun Fun 2016 Kick-Off, Crowning of Sun Fun King & Queen, Plyler Park, Emcee Diane DeVaughn Stokes
7:15 – 9:15 p.m. Kick-Off Concert in Plyler Park featuring The Legacy Motown Revue
9:30 p.m. Golden Knights Night Performance

 

Saturday, June 4
10 a.m. Sun Fun Festival Parade, Emcee Diane DeVaughn Stokes
Noon – 2 p.m. Concert following Parade in Plyler Park featuring The SwashTones
11 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Various locations in Plyler Park, the beach and boardwalk:
• Sandcastle Building Contest
• Beach Bingo
• Bocce Ball
• Face painting and balloon animals – Impact Ministries
• Kids contests, crafts and games with prizes (Jello Jump, Watermelon Eating, Water Sponge Toss, bubble gum blowing), Treasure Box (dig for buried treasure in a giant treasure chest), Sponsored by local businesses
• Photo Booths
• Mascot appearances
• Sun Fun Jail
2:00 p.m. Golden Knights Performance
3:00 p.m. Free Shag Lessons in Plyler Park in front of stage
3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Concert featuring The Entertainers
5:45 p.m. Shag Contest

Native Salt Games in Myrtle Beach
The Native Sons SALT Games, a more competitive type of beach fun, will also be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5. The event is free and is being held at the old Myrtle Beach Pavilion site between 8th and 9th Ave North. It features 15 different competitions including lifeguard games, yoga on the Boardwalk, surfing competitions, a 5K, and a Kid’s Fun Run. Read more here…
